Earlier today I received an email from Lane Chaplin pointing me and some others to an article written by Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries. The title of which is “It’s Time to Rethink the Issue of Homosexuality.” Having just read the article a while ago I was surprised. It’s a surprise to me that the same methods people have in changing or repackaging the Gospel message, and the same methods those people use in being culturally relevant—the same thing is being done concerning the issue of Homosexuality.
The denial of Sola Scriptura and the glorying of subjective relativism.
Sola Scriptura in essence meaning that the Scriptures are the only infallible final authority over the Christian faith, morals and doctrine. And instead what was done, and what is being continually done not only in issues concerning Homosexuality, but also in issues concerning abortion, other forms of sexual immorality, and even in Gospel proclamation is: “We have considered all theological and philosophical arguments…but let us consider the people and how they feel about it.”
That should be very telling to us. That in critical issues such as this Christian ministers would go on and say “Yeah we considered and read all the theological implications…’but’…” Can we see the denigration of Biblical authority in the Church world today? Emotion trumps truth? Subjective opinions and feelings trumps Biblical mandates and commands?
Before pointing you to the article by Ken Silva I would like to leave you with a modified version of a quote from Dr. Walter Martin:
“What really is there to discuss; what really is there to consider and change, if you actually believe what Bible says?”
And here’s a quick excerpt from the article:
The only question that actually matters is for those of us who are ambassadors for Jesus Christ is: What does the Bible say about the issue at hand; in this case the practice of homosexuality. And herein lies the bigger, issue within the issue, which God is laboring to bring out to His slumbering evangelical leaders: Protestant evangelicalism continues give its lip service to the Bible as being the final authority in matters of faith and morals, but when it really comes right down to it—in the end—a critical life issue such as homosexuality is now being decided by how one feels about it rather than what the Lord has already, and quite clearly, told us — “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22, NASB).
Those of you who are familiar with Christian apologist and cult expert Dr. Walter Martin (1928-1989) know that circa 1985 he said:
We are more concerned in the United States about the rights of homosexuals than we are about Who Jesus Christ is and what He did. We’re more concerned with social issues in the United States in the Christian church denominationally than we are with those who are dying in their sins without the Gospel. We are very concerned about everything except the things that really matter.
