“‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.”

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take him at his word;
Just to rest upon his promise;
Just to know, thus saith the Lord.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more.

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust his cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me
‘Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

I’m so glad I learned to trust thee,
Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend;
And I know that thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

Words: Louisa M. R. Stead, 1882. These words are said to have written been after Stead witnessed her husband drown.
Music: William J. Kirkpatrick

Since I’ve missed posting on the Lord’s Day, let this instead be a reminder for us as we tread on in the pilgrim’s journey through the rest of this week. What words these are! Indeed, how sweet it is to trust in Jesus, just to trust His Word! Dear friends, this it what it means to lean on the Word of God alone. All manner of comfort, all manner of peace can only arise from “Thus saith the Lord.”

May we find strength to mortify sin, strength to exult Christ, strength to give all of self for the cause of the gospel in this hymn as it employs rich Bible truth!

And may we remember in times of silence, in times of joy, and times of adversity:

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take him at his word;
Just to rest upon his promise;
Just to know, thus saith the Lord.
