Declaring War on the “Sinner’s Prayer”

I'm sick and tired of this "Sinner's Prayer." Just because it's most convenient to use it...because most preachers fail to understand how painstaking salvation and genuine conversion really is, they relegate the Gospel call into "CHOOSING/DECIDING GOD." Blasphemy. Should we not go to strenuous efforts for the salvation of men souls? Why deceive them that they have (instant) assurance of salvation? No warnings? No telling them of reality that if there is no change of heart, change of mind, ...

How We May Spoil the Gospel.

You may spoil the Gospel by substitution. You have only to withdraw from the eyes of the sinner the grand object which the Bible proposes to faith,—Jesus Christ; and to substitute another object in His place,—the Church, the Ministry, the Confessional, Baptism, or the Lord’s Supper, and the mischief is done. Substitute anything for Christ, and the Gospel is totally spoiled! . . . You may spoil the Gospel by addition. You have only to add ...

That’s My King!!! I Wonder if You Know Him?

My King was born King. The Bible says He’s a Seven Way King. He’s the King of the Jews – that’s a racial King. He’s the King of Israel – that’s a National King. He’s the King of righteousness. He’s the King of the ages. He’s the King of Heaven. He’s the King of glory. He’s the King of kings and He is the Lord of lords. Now that’s my King. Well I wonder if you know Him. ...

Age Characterized by Superficiality and Shallowness

Spirituality of soul, purity of heart, integrity of conduct, the scribes and Pharisees had no regard for. They were forward in fasting, praying at street corners, and giving of alms ostentatiously, but it was all done with the object of enhancing their reputation among men. And in their religion we have an exemplification of what is the natural persuasion of men the world over, namely that a religion of external performances will suffice to ensure ...

Disrespectful, Unloving and Hateful Evangelism

We as Christians, having received the truth of God's Word, the message of the Gospel of the Lord Christ Jesus that truly saves, cannot help but preach and share such good news to others. Such good news that we have received that brought us from spiritual death to spiritual life, as we are bid and commanded by Scripture itself to preach the Gospel, it pains me to say that even in our passion and our ...

I Dare Not be Contentious. Only a Witness for God.

I am not to expect others to see with my eyes! I am deeply convinced of the truth of John the Baptist's aphorism in John 3:27, "A man can receive nothing---except it be given him from Heaven." I well know, that the little measure of knowledge I have obtained in the things of God---has not been owing to my own wisdom and teachableness, but to God's goodness. Nor did I learn everything all at once---God ...

Church Service, for Believers or Unbelievers?

I have taken quite an interest towards this topic since the beginning of the month since it seems that today, along with the vagueness in the lines to be drawn in the functions of the pulpit and various ministries in the modern Church, most of us, if we would be honest with ourselves are basically clueless to what is and what is not to be done concerning this issue as directed by scripture. I think if ...

The Gospel, Neither a Proposal Nor a Suggestion.

The greatest message in the Bible, the Gospel of the Lord Christ Jesus. Perhaps it is the single most popular message in all of Christian history if not human history. The best news in the world, that the Lord Christ Jesus was crucified, died, taking the just penalty for our sins and on the third day rose again from the grave. That same message Paul preached. The same message that all the Apostles preached. The ...

Pastors, is Your Preaching Wimpy?

When Paul spoke to the Ephesian elders in his final meeting with them, he said these words: "Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God." (Acts 20:26-27) The true preacher of the Word seeks to have this as his ambition as well. God is not honored when men think so little of ...
