Do you CONFESS Christ?—At ALL Costs?

There is no true confession where there is not a changed spirit and a transformed life, or rather the confession is such as shall suffice to condemn the man out of his own mouth, and send him out from God’s presence a revealed pretender. My dear brethren and sisters in Christ, you members of this church, I ask you to put it to your consciences, Do you confess Christ in your business? You working men, do you ...

Satisfied with Heaven even if Christ Were Not There

The critical question for our generation—and for every generation—is this: If you could have heaven, with no sickness, and with all the friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven, if Christ were not ...

I Am Ashamed of My Stupidity!

Were there but such clear and deep impressions upon our own souls of those glorious things which we daily preach, oh what a change would it make in our sermons, and in our private course of life! Oh what a miserable thing it is to the Church and to themselves, that men must preach of heaven and hell, before they soundly believe that there are such things, or have felt the weight of the doctrines which ...

What Will You Tell Me If I Had a Brain Tumor?

Just a while ago, as I was browsing around my Facebook page, I saw Susan Yesner and Doug Eaton post the same video from YouTube. A video with the title: "Shocking Message to Pastors & Churches." I watched it and re-posted it as soon as I was done. In an understatement I would say that it is not only shocking but very, very much sobering as well. Below are my comments on the video, and my ...

“Is Christ Your Lord?”

I've been meaning to post this for a while now since the past week. A.W. Pink puts it so plainly and powerfully, what it means to be actually and genuinely converted; what it truly means to be saved; what it means to be a genuine Christian. I commend this short work to... Those who are seeking Christ; Those who are in Christ; Those who are apart from Christ and still are in the world. Dear loved ones, make your calling ...

Is This All Thy Compassion for Lost Sinners?

Lately, I've been struggling to finish a couple of books. Tim Challies' The Guide to Spiritual Discernment, Richard Sibbes' The Bruised Reed and John Owen's Mortification of Sin. A series of circumstances led me to put down those three books for a while and take up a new one, Richard Baxter's The Reformed Pastor. I was determined that before I get serious, and to make sure if God is really calling me for the great responsibility ...

Half a Gospel is No Gospel at All.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16) Paul sets out this glorious theme. This tremendous declaration of good news. This call to be saved. And he does so like setting a sparkling diamond on the black velvet, as it were, of the condition of men and women outside of Christ. Indeed ...

Disrespectful, Unloving and Hateful Evangelism

We as Christians, having received the truth of God's Word, the message of the Gospel of the Lord Christ Jesus that truly saves, cannot help but preach and share such good news to others. Such good news that we have received that brought us from spiritual death to spiritual life, as we are bid and commanded by Scripture itself to preach the Gospel, it pains me to say that even in our passion and our ...

Biblically Correct Evangelism Starts With…

God loves you!...? All you do in evangelism, some say, is to call people to 'come to Christ', and you offer forgiveness. You call upon them to 'decide for Christ'. They generally go on to say that if you afterwards go to the other meetings you will learn a deeper doctrine, a profound truth; but in an evangelistic meeting there is only a simple message - it is "Come to Jesus; come to Christ, decide for ...
