What Have I Done to Deserve to Suffering?

One of the marks of the Christian life is suffering, but is it not true that the problem of suffering is as much considered outside of the Christian world as it is amongst Christians? Prior to conversion I am sure the question "What have I done to deserve this?" has rolled out of your lips at least once in your time. We Have Banished the Holy God of Scripture

If there is any doctrine that rivals God's sovereignty in importance it is the holiness of God. But do we have any sense or appreciation of the holiness of God in our churches today? David Wells writes that God's holiness weighs "lightly upon us." Why? Holiness involves God's transcendence. It involves majesty, the authority of sovereign power, stateliness or grandeur. It embraces the idea of God's sovereign majestic will, a will that is set upon proclaiming himself to ...

Suffering? Devil’s Work or God’s Work?

lot of people in the "Christian world" today have this idea where they categorize circumstances that happen in our lives into two:1. Bad stuff = Devil's doing. 2. Good stuff = God's doing. And that way of thinking brings us to the sort of "Biblical" conclusion where preachers basically preach and say: "Ah! You're going through pain and misery because of the Devil's foothold in your life! Resist him and he will flee!"

"Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?"

The Unworthiness and Unlikeness of…YOU.

The Gospel addresses men as guilty, condemned, perishing criminals. It declares that the most chaste moralist is in the same terrible plight as is the most voluptuous profligate; and the zealous professor, with all his religious performances, is no better off than the most profane infidel. The Gospel contemplates every person as a fallen, polluted, hell-deserving and helpless sinner. The grace which the Gospel publishes is his only hope! Grace is a perfection of the divine character ...
