Seeking Comfort where Comfort Cannot be Found.

had always known of the great doctrinal need of the church of the teachings of scripture, but it was only last Friday that I realized the weight of this grave need in the personal lives of God’s people.

People struggle over so much in the church today. They wrestle with things like missed opportunities, misunderstandings between family members, persecution and hardships. In response they comfort themselves with the thought that God would deliver them, His people. But still, truth be told, they are looking for comfort where comfort cannot be found! They are expecting God to be faithful to respond to this need of theirs, such a God that is seemingly just there every time we need Him, but in the same time we refuse to acknowledge the fact of His sovereignty over each and every circumstance! These people go about their christian lives simply oblivious of the One True God that has pre-ordained each and every moment of time in this universe! They refuse to ask the question “Why suffering?”, and conceal their minds instead to the idea that God will deliver.

Is it not true that if we follow through with the thought of the reasons for suffering we would see that God is the one who purposed it all? Ah, but no! Our shallow theology cannot handle that! We would rather believe a reactionary, utility God that simply reacts when things go wrong and give a momentary solution, rather than be convicted of the reality of Scripture that God is indeed Sovereign!

Is that not where true comfort lies? That though in death and peril, God still is in control?

well said bes..God's holy and sovereign throne has become a call center..People do not seek the Truth of Scripture nowadays then they wonder why such events are happening in their lives. I do not pretend to know the will of the Father but I do know that we need to first understand and accept the Truth before we can live by it.

"Call center", interesting way to put it! I'll write that down.Very true bes, their basically blind in their christian life. . . and what's more disappointing is that they are really Christains. The inability of the pulpit to feed the sheep and open the eyes of the people to the truth of scripture as rendered the men of women of God ignorant and powerless."I do not pretend to know the will of the Father but I do know that we need to first understand and accept the Truth before we can live by it." – I couldn't have said it any better bes!
