Gospel Reductionism

That pretty much sums up what the Modern Day Gospel has gone through.
Gospel Reductionism.

We have so much watered down, truncated, sugar coated, repackaged and perverted the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the point that it becomes a gospel no more.

I got home today from the Friday night youth service. And boy, do I wanna walk out of there and make a scene, but my positive thinking/Christian-spirit got the better of me. Not to mention how the Thursday night service just repulses me, for I have once again experienced this Modern Day Gospel preached in the congregation.

What is so wrong with the Modern Gospel anyway?
(as shown in the previous entry)

So, what is it really? “It works right? And there really isn’t anything wrong with it… and you know… it’s Biblical! Take that!” So then, the question that must be early asked is this, “Is this Modern Day Gospel Biblical?”

Is this Evangelical Method for bringing souls to Christ Biblically legitimate? Then to start, let me shock you with this statement:

“Yes… maybe it is… but then again, for the most part…

It seemingly IS the pinnacle of absolute heretical idolatry ever in the History of the Body of Christ even from the time of the Apostles!”

‘Whoa?!’, you say?

Is the Gospel so powerless today that we need to use methods, strategies, tactics, techniques and device just so people can be saved? Do we Modern day Christians really think that we need to give God a helping hand? Do we so called Evangelists actually think that we need to make the Gospel relevant? Do we ‘Disciplers’ of faith seriously think that the Gospel, the Glory of God manifest in the Work of His Son Jesus Christ is so powerless in this day and age, to the point that we must rely on the manipulation of the emotions, logical deductions, and philosophical cliches just so that this same Gospel can be delivered and understood better by the unregenerate man?

This just makes me sick. Week in and week out, the same damnable altar call. “Oh, you wouldn’t have this if you don’t have Christ in your life”, “God has done a lot of miracles in my life. And I tell you, if you accept Jesus in your life, He will perform the same miracles in yours as well.”

Can you guys see anything wrong with what we are doing? You preach a wishy-washy message that appeals to the emotions of man. You tell the people how much God wants for them. How God wants them to be victorious. How God wants to bless them and prosper them.

“It’s a Gospel of Greed! That’s what it is!”

We think that we are preaching a noble message. We think that we are taking care of the flock. We think that this is what these people ‘need’. But let me ask you now my friend, is it about what we need? Is it about our needs? Is our God a Need-Providing-god? Is our God a I-Want-to-Bless-you-no-matter-what-god?

Oh, that’s right. That’s our god! As they would say, “Our god is in the business of blessing people!”

Yep!
A UTILITY GOD! THAT’S WHAT OUR GOD IS!

Christ died so we can have victory! Christ died so we can have financial breakthroughs! Christ died so we can experience miracles! Christ died so we can be healed! Christ died so we can have joy! Christ died to bless us! Christ died to prosper us! Christ died to make us happy! Christ died for us to be happy! Christ died for the happiness of man! Christ died for MAN! God was incarnate in the flesh just so to make MAN happy! What an amazing doctrine!

That’s our gospel!
It only repeats one word, “MAN, MAN, MAN, MAN!”

I’m getting furious now, ‘coz the church today absolutely sickens me. And to think that we call ourselves a “Christ-Centered, Bible-Based, Spirit-Filled, Disciple-Making, Mission-Driven Church.” A “club”, that’s what our church has become. An emotional and spiritual click where people can get refuge from.

I’ve already gone so far out in this post that I haven’t really addressed the mortal blows dealt in the reduction of the Gospel. But due to this one thing the whole Gospel has been perverted.

Idolatry.

It’s the oldest and most perverse sin in the Book. In today’s Christianity the great majority of professing Christians doesn’t really have an idea of who God really is. To us, all we ever know about God is that God is Love, that He wants to have a relationship with us. You look at those altar calls, they’ll never tell you that God is Just, Holy and Righteous and that He will pour down His wrath on each and every sinner that goes against His Glory. You’ll never hear that! All you’ll ever hear is that God wants to bless us. Then we ‘seemingly’ use scripture as if the Bible was some kind of self-help book!

Wherever did we get this god of ours? A God that exists for man? I think that that’s the deepest kind of Idolatry ever, I can’t think of anything worse.

Now, let me deal with you now with truth.

First of all, let me clear some things up:

  1. Christ DID NOT die so we can have victory.
  2. Christ DID NOT die so we can have financial breakthroughs.
  3. Christ DID NOT die so we can experience miracles.
  4. Christ DID NOT die so we can be healed.
  5. Christ DID NOT die so we can have joy.
  6. Christ DID NOT died to bless us.
  7. Christ DID NOT die to prosper us.
  8. Christ DID NOT die to make us happy.
  9. Christ DID NOT die for us to be happy.
  10. Christ DID NOT die for the happiness of man.
  11. Christ DID NOT die for MAN!
  12. God was NOT incarnate in the flesh just so to make MAN happy.

Now that that’s clear, (well I will explain this further in the next blog for tomorrow) let us deal with this one issue first. Idolatry.

Who is God? Have you ever asked yourself that question? Who is God? We are not talking about the “God is good, man is not” cliche. God is Holy. “Holy, Holy, Holy.” There is none like God. We are not talking about good, we are talking about moral perfection. God is morally perfect. He is separate. He is separate from all things and all beings that are not morally perfect. He is Holy. So Holy that He cannot bear the sight of sin. So Pure that He cannot bear all that is in utter depravity in the realm of sin. He is Just. He is Righteous. God doesn’t exist to give us anything. God doesn’t exist for our sake. He doesn’t love us for our sake. He doesn’t feel pity for our sakes. He didn’t even create us so we can have a “Relationship with Him”. He exists for the Glory of His own Name. He created all things, that in all things He alone may be Glorified. This is God. He is Justice. He is Truth. He is Noble. He is Right. He is the absolution of everything that is pure. He is without blemish, without wrinkle, without spot. He is the Holy. He is God.

And the Glory of God… The Glory of God… The pinnacle… The absolute manifestation of the Glorification of God… was shown in the Cross… not for us… but for GOD.

I’m gonna cut it here now, quite an open ending for the entry… Repetitive and unbalanced I may be. But I need to do this if I am to be true to the Word of God. Be sure to check out the blog again tomorrow, I’m not done yet with this.

God bless.
