Theology in Gospel Proclamation?!

Pastor Jim put it so plainly in this clip about the importance of theology in Gospel proclamation. Because in the final analysis of the issue, a Gospel call devoid of theological thought, of true Biblical thought, can not help anyone. Can not save anyone.

Should it not be the normative Christian thinking to base all things to the Word of God? But why is it, in preaching the most important message in all of Scripture, preaching Christ and Him crucified, we would think otherwise?

We subject ourselves to psychology, sociology, philosophy, cultural studies and statistics instead of the infallible Word of God? But then some would say that they take all that into consideration as well as theology. I fail to see the virtue in that. They see God’s Word as necessary. But they do not see it to be sufficient?

Our comfort, our joy, our peace, lies solely and singularly in “Thus saith the Lord.”

When we talk to our children and friends, I hope what we tell them, in speaking and proclaiming the things of God, we do not desperately cling on to quaint little testimonies and  stories. That doesn’t help. Listen closely to the depths of the comfort of knowing what God has said and done before the foundations of the earth, in this clip.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. —2 Peter 3:18
