The TRUE meaning of the CROSS.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ. The ‘Good News’. What is so good about it? Is the Gospel really that great of a thing to be stressed out so often?

What is this Gospel?
Christ suffered and died for our sins?
Yes, you can define the Gospel that way. You surely can. Especially if the Gospel to you is just like a door that passes you from death to life. Nothing too important, just something you just walk through and move on into ‘deeper stuff’.

That is basically how today’s Christian can define the Gospel. They can say it’s about victory over the power of sin and death, yes that may be it, but if you read the Bible it isn’t just that. Why in God’s name do you think that the Work done by the Son of God was called the Good News? In fact for a Christian it must and should be THE only Good thing, THE only BEST thing, THE only thing ever for him that deserves his utmost reverence! Because herein the Cross the total Glorification of God was manifest by the Blood of the Lamb!

Now dear reader, let me tell you about the true meaning of the Cross; the true meaning of the Cross that which was so much neglected in the generation of Modern Christianity.

What are we saved from?
Does anybody really know today?
As Leonard Ravenhill would say, “What are you saved from? Are you saved from sin? Are you saved from lying? Are you saved from lust? Are you saved from covetousness? Idolatry? Come’on what are you saved from?”

Indeed, what are we saved from? “Well duh, of course we are saved from sin! But not just that, even the consequences of sin which is Hell!”

That my friend, is one of the many twisted notions a Modern day Christian has in his inch deep theology. What can sin do to you? Can sin hurt you? Can lying or cheating destroy you? Can your lust burn you? Can Hell take you by itself? Can Hell take you just because you’re not good enough of a person? Can Hell give you the condemnation you deserve just because you didn’t hit the mark of Holiness?

Why oh why do you think that the Bible says that we should not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in Hell? (Matthew 10:28)

We are not saved from sinning! We are not saved from doing bad things or being a sinful person! We are saved from the Wrath of God. The Wrath of God that abides with each and every sinner, that’s what we are saved from!(John 3:36) We are saved from He who will pour out His justice on all unrighteous reprobate wicked people.

“Is that all you ever talk about?! The Wrath of God this… The Wrath of God that!”

Well my friend, it’s because I want to tell you of the love of God. But even in this, I fail to explain and reveal the true depths of God’s love for His people. I cannot count the number of grains of sand on the earth, neither can I count the number of stars in the heavens. In the same way I can never understand nor put into justified account the eternal Love of God for His children.

Only in God’s Wrath can we understand God’s love. ‘Coz you can’t ever know the worth of what Christ did on the Cross, unless you know what you are apart from it. Anything that deviates from the righteous standard of God is an abomination before Him.

How exactly are we saved?
What exactly did Christ do?

“Well, we are saved because, Christ died as a substitute for our sins. He was crucified, died, buried, and rose in the third day overcoming the power of sin…” …like I said, that’s how a Modern day Christian would say it.

“Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”
(Matthew 27:46)

I never really understood that verse to be honest with you. At first I thought, “Well yeah, because Christ was made a curse, he took all sin upon Him, that’s why God cannot even look at Him, that’s why God has forsaken Him at that time.” But as my study drew longer and longer. My search for truth. I realized this:

  • We are not saved because of the whips that struck Christ’s back.
  • We are not saved because of the crown of thorns on His head.
  • We are not saved because a spear was struck on His side.
  • We are not even saved because he was hung on a Tree!
  • We are saved because the Cup of the Wrath of God that you should drink, He drank!

“My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39)

What did it mean for Christ to drink that cup? Do you know what it means? Yes it means that the He will drink the Wrath of God that must be poured on you and me, but it means more than that.

Here’s the Lord of Glory, sitting on the Throne High and lifted up. He steps down from His throne. He steps out of the Throne Room. He walks along the streets of gold. He steps out the Gates of Heaven. He steps down… He steps down on to sinful earth. He steps down… He steps down into earth as one of us. He steps down in the image of a destitute depraved reprobate wicked people. He steps down from all Glory. He steps down and was hung on the Tree. He steps down, and on that tree He cries, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?”. On that moment, Father and the Son? The relationship was destroyed. He steps down to be disconnected from all Glory! He steps down to be disconnected from the Bosom of the Father! He was the one who carried our Sin to become an abomination before His very own Father. He steps down to become a curse. The Son has become a curse. He has become a substitute. A propitiation. An expiation. He has become the sacrifice to appease the Wrath of God. And it pleased YHWH to crush Him!(Isaiah 53:10) Jesus Christ, bearing your sin, became so terribl
e, becoming such an abomination… God was Glorified in His destruction!

The pain of the Cross? Whips? Mockery? Spears? Crowns of thorns? Throw them all with the wind. Broken fellowship between the Father and the Son? Heaven’s Gate that slams squarely at our faces throwing us into Wrath. That very same Gate, was slammed on to someone else, the Son. You see Christ didn’t die a martyr! He didn’t die because of whips or thorns! He did not die by the wrath of men! He died by the Wrath of God! He died because it was in the pleasure of His own Father to crush Him!

He died. If you’re a child of God, He died for you.

That’s what makes everything else so small in life. Doctrine, theology, blessings, prosperity and faith. To the wind with all of them. Christ has died for you and me. Understanding that… trying to grasp that one truth with the entirety of one’s Christian life… that’s enough.

Deep stuff? Next foundational truth? Prophecies? Spiritual Warfare? Understand that Christ has died for you and live in total devotion to God on to being conformed in the image of Christ in the pursuit of Holiness, that’s enough! Even if Satan gets you martyred that’s enough!

Apart from Christ. We are destitute. Utterly depraved.

Herein God’s Wrath, herein Christ, herein the destruction of the Son, herein is the Love of God for you and me.

THAT is the Good News my friends.

This is the GOOD NEWS.
