Here’s what was in that link in the post: HT
Listen as John Piper spins the truth about Rick Warren. Over the years, Rick Warren has proven he is a false teacher but John Piper cannot see this simple truth.
I wonder how John Piper will spin this about Rick Warren being sound in theology:
It’s sad to watch as a man of God falls into the pits of carnality and sin. In my opinion, John Piper’s fall started years ago when he started hanging out with Mark Driscoll.
[N.D. doesn't necessarily share the conclusions of the quoted author]
I hope and pray that if this truly is a positive move by Dr. Piper to pull Rick Warren to (finally) sound theological waters toward a reformation of his whole ministry, theology, preaching and practice, then I will surely, surely rejoice in God. But if what Dr. Piper is endeavoring is simply building empty bridges that addresses no serious issue regarding Rick Warren’s perversion of the Christian faith, then…may the Lord of all the earth do right.

As one that has profited from much of John Piper’s teaching I too am concerned about the latest direction with Driscoll and now Warren and even his having Doug Wilson has its issues with the concern that many have with his “Federal Vision” views.
As was said; if this to bring Warren in line that is great but why does one that is as much a public figure as Piper do this in public. We are called to bring a brother back and that is great but we are not called to do that in a way that may take others in a wrong direction. It truly does seem as discernment is the issue here as well as maybe there is a little pride here that leads one to do correction, if that what it is, publically.
Hello Tony,
Thank you for the comment. Well, at least with Driscoll he did endeavor to tackle the main issues with him. But that he didn’t do with Doug Wilson, neither is he doing it now with Rick Warren.
And yes, that too is one of my contentions with Dr. Piper’s decision, why publically? Why not invite him to a series of meetings to discuss the important issues surrounding his ministry/theology/preaching? Why let him keynote right away at DG 2010?
I ask you to do the following: check out Robert Schuller (Crystal Cathedral) and Peter Drucker (the business guru) (sorry, my spelling is so poor), two of Warren's main sources of inspiration, as well as other well known New Age personalities. That alone should be sufficient to tell you where he comes from and where he's headed. Paul said that Satan transforms himself into an angel of light, so do his his ministers transform themselves into ministers of righteousness. For Piper to hook up with Warren is like Paul hooking up with the false teachers he so severely warned us about in his letters, especially to the elders at the church in Ephesus, Acts 20:28-30. Then verse 31, Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
