Mindless Christianity.
What Paul wrote about unbelieving Jews in his day could be said, I fear, of some believing Christians in ours: "I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened." ((Romans 10:2)) Many have zeal without knowledge, enthusiasm without enlightenment. In more modern jargon, they are keen but clueless. Now I thank God for zeal. Heaven forbid that knowledge without zeal should replace zeal without knowledge! God's purpose is both, ...

The Whole Gospel to the Whole Person.
So then in our evangelistic proclamation we must address the whole person (mind, heart and will) with the whole gospel (Christ incarnate, crucified, risen, reigning, coming again and much else besides). We shall argue with this mind and plead with his heart in order to move his will, and we shall put our trust in the Holy Spirit throughout. We have no liberty to present a partial Christ (man but not God, his life but ...

There is No Longer a Christian Mind.
I find myself wondering how the apostle would react if he were to visit Western Christendom today. I think he would deplore, as Harry Blamires has justly deplored, the contemporary lack of a Christian mind. A "Christian mind" is described by Mr. Blamires as "a mind trained, informed, equipped to handle data of secular controversy within a framework of reference which is constructed of Christian presuppositions," presuppositions (for example) of the supernatural, of the pervasiveness ...

An Urgent Need.
There is an urgent need for courageous preachers in the pulpits of the world today, like the apostles in the early Church who "were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness" (Acts 4:31). Neither men-pleasers not time-servers ever make good preachers. We are called to the sacred task of biblical exposition, and commissioned to proclaim what God has said, not what human beings want to hear. Many modern churchmen ...
