Category: Gospel of the Lord Christ Jesus

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in. That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin!

Trusting Him. It is by Faith not Emotions and Feelings.

Reading C. H. Spurgeon's two small devotions "Daily Help" and "Faith's Checkbook" I felt that sharing today's entries from both would be a good thing and here I pray that the Lord might be pleased to use them to bless others more than it did me. The first piece is from Spurgeon's "Daily Help". We may labor with all our might to climb towards the peak of Mount Sinai. But instead of meeting a vision of hope ...

There is a Power in God’s Gospel Beyond All Description!

I am at a loss for words as to why it seems that most of us have lost confidence in the Gospel of God. We esteem it in words and lip-service but deny it's power in the practicality of life. In battling sin we look to so many devices and methods and deny Christ's place in the power of His Gospel that overcomes and subdues the very root of sin. Even in our preaching of the Gospel, ...

How Could a Just and Holy God Justify Me?!

Have you ever wondered in your own personal life why somehow there is great difficulty to devote  yourself toward godly things? It may differ with you, but in the experience of my own soul this happens so often when my hope, my trust, my joy, my peace is depending on anything but God. I find great ease to fall into sin when the eyes of my heart cease to look at the Throne of grace. I ...

The Unmitigated Fury of God’s Wrath Against Sin

Often times, though we labor to subscribe fully to truths like the Penal Substitutionary Atonement of Christ, it's a stark reality for the most of us that the weight of the matter is little felt and realized. We experience this especially in times when we are engaged in the busyness of life, in our occupations and ministries. But it must not be so. It must not be so. Let us give ourselves in meditation this ...

There is Total Hopelessness Without Christ!

There is total hopelessness without Christ, but with Christ there is hope, and only is there hope in Christ. There is total hopelessness in Roman Catholicism. You can be the most holy of Roman Catholics, and yet still end up as an enemy of God, for it is Roman dogma that we still must do penance to go back to the state of grace. But how much penance, how much working of the sacraments will ever ...

What the Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Means to Me

The guys over at TeamPyro did a short and sweet series surrounding the phrase: "What the Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Means to Me". I really enjoyed the personal nature of what they individually written, and have been blessed by it immensely. I guess that says something about my own character, since I at times find much more gleanings in a few instances of written text than in a novel seeking to expound the deepest of ...

This is What Happened on the Cross as Jesus was Crucified

It is far too easy in the Christian life, as we go through the complexities of this faith especially in active ministry or just the simple survey of what is going on in the world, to utterly forget taking heed to our own hearts the weight of the Biblical realities we profess to believe. Sometimes when we talk so much about the Gospel, the grace and the wrath of God, sometimes we do it so ...

Death is Dead!

He is Risen! Death is dead! Death is dead! The Lord, Christ Jesus has risen! Death is dead! Death is dead And love lives on. This will be my people's song. Life lives again for all the world to see Death has been overwhelmed by victory. "For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in ...

Christ Forsaken

For the next couple of days, beginning today, "Black Saturday", 'till mid-week next week I will be posting devotions that reflect on the Gospel, the Cross, the person and work of our Lord, Christ Jesus. I think it's imperative that such reflections be done continually (Even after this time of reflection 'till Resurrection Sunday). I think that it's a great danger for the soul to grow cold when it neglects to reflect upon the heights ...
