Category: The Sovereignty of God

God is sovereign. Not slightly sovereign. Not mostly sovereign. Not occasionally sovereign. HE IS SOVEREIGN.

Human Beings Becoming Sovereign…

If we want to recover the doctrine of God we have to recover the attributes of God, and one attribute that is sorely missing in our time is the attribute of God's sovereignty. What happens in the Christian world if you don't give attention to the sovereign God? Human sovereignty comes in to take the true God's place. Idols always replace the true if the true is not kept there. So you have human beings becoming sovereign in ...

How Very Little Real Christianity There is Today!

Yes, the life which Jesus lived here upon earth was a life of faith. This has not been given sufficient prominence. In this, as in all things, He is our perfect Model. “By faith, He walked, looking always unto the Father, speaking and acting in filial dependence on the Father, and in filial reception out of the Father’s fullness. By faith, He looked away from all discouragements, difficulties, and oppositions, committing His cause to the Lord, ...

Why is it?!—No Fear of God.

Why is it that, today, the masses are so utterly unconcerned about spiritual and eternal things, and that they are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God? Why is it that even on the battlefields multitudes were so indifferent to their soul's welfare? Why is it that defiance of Heaven is becoming more open, more blatant, more daring? The answer is, Because "There is no fear of God before their eyes" (Rom. 3:18). Again; why ...

How Could God Do This to Us??

Thursday in Minneapolis it was so gorgeous walking home I thought: I should write a post on how astonishing it is that no earthquake swallowed up this city today. Instead God sent warmth and crystal skies and cool breezes and golden leaves and hanging sea gulls over Elliot Park. Amazing. Absolutely amazing! We deserved the 52-story IDS tower to fall, and bridges to collapse, and poisonous gas to kill thousands. But instead God gave us over-the-top foretastes of ...

If This Were Lost Instead, And All I had Was You.

"Oh Lord, if this were lost instead, And all I had was You, I would Be rich, and have the greatest good." His hands hung limp beside the gray blood splattered stone and then he knelt and said: "Oh God, what You had dealt me in this murky day is not what I had thought this bloody blot red stone would bring." "What have we done? What is our sin?" "Your sons and daughters, Job, are dead." "Oh God, I cling with ...

Please, Don’t Empty My Self-Righteousness!

Eternal life is a gift, therefore it can neither be earned by good works, nor claimed as a right. Seeing that salvation is a 'gift,' who has any right to tell God on whom He ought to bestow it? It is not that the Giver ever refuses this gift to any who seek it wholeheartedly, and according to the rules which He has prescribed. No! He refuses none who come to Him empty-handed and in ...

Suffering? Devil’s Work or God’s Work?

lot of people in the "Christian world" today have this idea where they categorize circumstances that happen in our lives into two:1. Bad stuff = Devil's doing. 2. Good stuff = God's doing. And that way of thinking brings us to the sort of "Biblical" conclusion where preachers basically preach and say: "Ah! You're going through pain and misery because of the Devil's foothold in your life! Resist him and he will flee!"

Men Will Allow God to be Everywhere Except on His Throne.

C.H. Spurgeon: Divine Sovereignty - HT "Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?"—Matthew 20:15.The householder says, "Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?" and even so does the God of heaven and earth ask this question of you this morning. "Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?"

I Have No Problem Worshiping a God Like That.

People go through so many things in so many different ways. We may have gone through similar adversities, but there's always that difference, the personal here and now experience that makes things hard. When people go through times of trouble and heart ache, as much as we, as their friends and loved ones, would desire to ease their pain and do stuff to do so, not much can actually be really done for them.
