I thought I might as well share these. [Thanks to Henry Middleton of the Thoughts on Apologetics Blog]
Firstly, Henry asked me, “Did you see the “Calvinism Defeated Once and For All” video tweeted by Lane [Chaplin]?” I said, I haven’t yet, and that I will check it out ASAP. Somehow, I kinda wish I didn’t bother watching the video.
It’s just…bad. [Feel free to rant at the comments section below on how much a thousand times woefully caricatured Calvinism is in this video]
Lane: “Calvinism Defeated Once and For All by the “KJV is right because ‘Pisseth on the wall’ is in there” Preacher! :D http://bit.ly/d9Lij9“
Also, got another interesting link off Lane’s twitter page too, “Phil Johnson discusses the Warren/Piper situation” in an interview in the Iron Sharpens Iron radio podcast • HT
Introductory words from James Swan of ISI • HT
As many of you have heard, it was no “April Fools Joke”, as our guest Phil Johnson tweeted (thumb-in-cheek). John Piper, highly sought after conference speaker, popular Reformed author, founder of the ministry Desiring Godi, and pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MNii, has invited controversial Southern Baptist pastor and best-selling author Rick Warren to speak on the theme “Thinking Purposefully for the Glory of Christ: The Life of the Mind and Global Reality”, at the 2010 Desiring God National Conference . Warren is on a speaking roster that includes such powerful defenders of the Reformation as Al Mohler, R.C. Sproul, Thabiti Anyabwile and John Piper himself.
This has come as a shock to many who greatly value John Piper and his ministry due to the fact that Rick Warren has publicly taken positions on various important issues and has spearheaded activities that most folk in the Reformed/Sovereign Grace community consider to be antithetical to Reformational thinking. In addition to Warren’s invitation to Barack Obama (then Senator), a militant pro-abortionist and pro-homosexual rights advocate, to speak at his church in December, 2006, for his Global Summit on AIDS, many of Warren’s theological positions are disturbing to many who love and admire Piper.

Update: Browsed a bit more. I can’t believe I missed it, Crosstalk’s examination of the Warrengate controversy • HT
Pastor Bob DeWaay is the Senior Pastor of Twin City Fellowship, and author of Redefining Christianity: Understanding the Purpose-Driven Movement.
Ingrid reported that Pastor John Piper encountered “Purpose-Driven” Pastor Rick Warren at a funeral and their meeting resulted in a phone call. The result is that last week Pastor Piper sent shock waves through the Christian community after announcing that he was inviting Rick Warren to be one of the speakers at the 2010 Desiring God Conference.
As Pastor DeWaay explains, “Orthodoxy” has to do with what you believe and what you’re willing to say you believe, at least in private. “Orthopraxy”, on the other hand, has to do with what you actually practice. As this program proves, Rick Warren, while he may have affirmed orthodox principles to John Piper, has a public record of proclaiming something very different. Ingrid and Pastor DeWaay expose this tension through various sources such as Warren’s own peace plan, an audio clip by John MacArthur on Warren’s omission of repentance, and much more.

I have never heard so much stupidity! Oh my God glorify your self! i am with a heart cry, Rick Warren apologizes for saying Jesus name? what kind of irrational and illogical reason could Rick Warren has to do this! You never deny Jesus or he'll deny you in front of the father. He's going to hell. But i still think John Piper has a reason for this.
Redefining church?
Gospel redefined?
Declares to be part of God's family with a prayer? and where is the power of God?
No sense of guilt, no repentance?
Uniting the world in one faith (that is not God's faith)?
Answer this, purpose-driven or Christ-driven? if purpose is the reason for your life your going into hell. May the glory of God be your reason! May Jesus sacrifice be your reason! God himself have his life for you, Jesus give his life for you, doing it for another reason is IDOLATRY!.
About Calvinism defeated thing, how wrong the video is about Calvinism, he must study more.
JM Vergara thanks for this information!
God bless.
I share your frustration, Jorge. I find no reason to prevent me from believing that Rick Warren is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Let us do well to pray for him. Both for Rick Warren and John Piper.
Whether or not Dr. Piper really knows what he's doing, the Bible gives us comfort when it says: "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand." (Proverbs 19:21)
We should plead the case to God in our own prayer closets more than we do in other places. May we spend our knees in prayer and anguish for the people of God and His glory. Especially at this most crucial time when the lines of biblical and faithful evangelicalism are being muddied and blurred.
Amen brother, let us pray for our enemies and brothers with love.
